Cases / Cylinders

greggo » Fri Sep 14, 2012 4:39 am

So i am starting to piece together in my head my next project.

Basically i'm going to rebuild another motor, put most of the tyga stuff on it similar to the current one (but with an MC28 swing arm and USD forks). I plan to build it to look like the old single sided swing arm RS (I'd love to mount one of the RS front fairings with the carbon ducts through the tank).

This time though I want to do a bit more with the engine on this project. One option is to hand over large sums of money to Andy (sure he's not overly distressed by that idea) and let him work some magic on a complete engine or cylinders/cases.

The other is to source many parts (again) and do lots of it myself.

These keep coming up on the japanese auctions and LOOK like they are in reasonable shape with a set of matching cases:

cpl of questions for the knowledgable folks here:
1. What crank would you use - std mc18? or does it 'have' to be an F3 item?
2. Can you use std pistons or with this sort of F3 port work does it have to be single ring?

I'd prefer to be in a position to use std stuff as this would mean greater parts availability (comparatively speaking I know NSR parts are getting rarer).

I do plan to run the bike on 100 octane pump gas infrequently (meaning I will ride it on open practice days and terrorise the 400 class).
