The current known path right now is to stick to Honda parts.

Neal is working on a programmable ignition which I hope he has success with to motivate me to work on mine. Matt at TYGA has his secret tricks as well.

For those willing to try, I think there are some small gains out there, but you will find it is small gains and it will mainly be for tinkering value rather than big gains and development.
