If you take the rear wheel off, and check the sprocket carrier for play you should have a better idea.

Take the sprocket carrier off the rear rim (just pull it off as there are five pins that slide into five rubber dampers that are in the rear wheel).

Check the rubber dampers for wear, and replace if needed.
