Hello everyone,
After a long search I’ve finally got my first 2 stroke. A 1990 NSR250(R7L) MC21 (Red/White/Blue). All original with 3740 Kms on the clock. See the attached pictures. The frames serial number indicates it’s early in the model year and the engine number is close to the frame number. I believe this bike was imported into Canada from Japan in 2004/5. It does have some bumps and bruises but all in all a very good place to start. It has the original tires from what the date codes say and the gas tank shows no signs of rust inside. The only real corrosion on the bike is on the front forks.
The challenge is that it has not been running since 2009 so any advice on ‘waking it up properly’ would be much appreciated. I don’t want to cause any damage starting it up after it’s sat for awhile. My goal is to keep it as original as possible and ride it as much as possible. I’m really looking forward to the NSR riding experience.
As an example of where I want to take this bike I’ve included a few photos of a bike I purchased from the original owner sometime ago (sorry it’s a 4 stroke and not a Honda) and brought back to as original condition as possible. It is a fantastic ride.
Just want to say thanks for all the information in this forum. It’s invaluable when you’re out looking to buy one of these very special 2 stroke bikes.
All the best in the New Year!
