MC21 pulse generator to flywheel air gap

wellsy4719 » Thu Mar 28, 2013 12:54 am

G'day All, my MC21 pulse gen clearances seem odd: the LH (lower) clearance is .008" whereas the upper one that feeds the top coil (number 2 cylinder I think) is .025". (It's this one that doesn't produce spark).
When I have queried this previously in a topic of no spark on the top plug it's been suggested both clearances should be the same - does this mean both .008"?
As a matter of interest, I've tested both pulse gens for resistance and continuity to the pgm3 then to the coils and spark plug caps. I've swapped around the gens, coils & plugs without success. All wiring connectors are clean with continuity to both sides of connectors so I know they are 100%. There are no broken wires and wriggling the looms while testing shows no fault.
Both pulse gens are identical in length of the magnetic poles and the top one doesn't appear broken off. I'm confident they're original.
If there is someone out there doing a rebuild or such with the flywheel cover off I would greatly appreciate it if a check of the air gaps could be done to clear the matter up. I really need to confirm clearances before condemning the pgm3. Thanks in anticipation.
