The text medium is typically a difficult one. There is no "tone of voice" to help make obvious the "flavour" of what is being said.
I (generally) try to be overly diplomatic in the text medium, as things tend to come across more harshly than intended, when read.
Certainly, "saying it like it is", or "calling a spade a spade" without justifying or explaining appropriately, in the text medium, can make people see you as a clueless hater or such-like.
It is certainly better to be Less Vociffer-ous in my opinion.
