I don't have an MC18 but on the 28 there is a clip like that, that the ends of the brake pads sit in (the end furthest from the pin). It fits into the caliper mount rather than the caliper body that holds the piston. The other clip sits on the main caliper body under the calipers (in your photo it would sit above the brake pads.
