Difference between RS250SPL and NF5

RS Addict » Thu Jan 23, 2014 4:19 am

Here's a few pics of the differences between a standard 1992 NF5 RS250 and a 1992 RS250 SPL

As you can see from the swing-arm, HRC tried (And succeeded) to make a swing arm very similar to the then, all conquering YZR250 that was winning everything back in the early 90's.

The 1992 SPL models got USD front forks whereas the works NSR’s of 1992 retained the standard front forks. I believe this was typical of HRC who used the SPL’s as test mules before fitting different parts to the works bikes.

The selected Satellite Teams using SPL's (Never more than 2 teams) tested parts and evaluated the performance of these parts allowing the full Factory team to go about their business without sacrificing valuable points or having to test while they raced…..Plus it gave the Factory team an edge over the competitors by not showing their hand too early with machine development.

These pics are a bit dated as the SPL looks a lot different now - I'll post up some more pics soon.

Cheers
