For heaven's sake, don't ride a tuned one then!
Red trace is a 1991 MC21R with a set of carbon cans and the airbox modified (basically, our standard "delimiting").
Blue trace is our SP tune.
Green is a standard RGV250M, although it had done reasonable mileage.
While it may not be fair to say all RGVs are like that (although most we've tested are!), it is fair to say almost all stock NSRs are as good as that! As you can see, peak power isn't much different, and most wouldn't even feel the 2hp the NSR has over the RGV, but look at the area between the two graphs, and particularly between 7000~9000rpm. This is what you've just experienced, and also why the RGVs "feel" quick, because you tend to get that crude rush after the even cruder powervalves open.
