cylinder mounting surface woes

Jim » Mon Aug 18, 2014 4:03 pm

Hi Guys, Long story, but I have a set of cylinders that are beautiful on the inside but which were a real bitch as far as getting base gasket material off - guessing mechanic did not mount them dry!
On the advice of a different mechanic, I ended up having the exterior and mounting surface bead blasted - thought bead blasting would remove the last bits, but it didn't, as can be seen in the pics. Going at this with a razor just doesn't seem to do much of anything (I did that for hours before the bead blasting and if it's possible, it is worse now), and I'm afraid to gouge it.

So the question is, is this mountable as is, with a new base gasket, and if not, WTF can I do? The plating on these is original and virtually perfect, so I'd really like them to be more than pretty paper weights. Sad

Thanks for continued advice.
