this is how I did it: glass. hole slightly larger than projecting portion of cylinder. 800 grit wet/dry paper duct taped to glass. WD40 as lube. you'll have to buy a diamond hole saw. I siliconed the glass to some plywood for added stability. and I grease paper gaskets.
