That looks interesting..

The damage on the head could possibly be a small needle roller. There are a couple of identical marks and they are all fairly uniform. The damage doesn't appear to be as random as you would get with a ring failure.

Horizontal marks on the piston? I'm lost there, unless someone has tried to clean up the piston after it developed a fault. Does the piston have damage which corresponds to the damage on the head?
