Hi Andy, and welcome to NSR-WORLD.

The 1987 MC16 and 1988 MC18 run a large flywheel, and the 89~97 models run a small flywheel. As you noted, the mounts are in a similar position on all cases, so you need the correct pick-ups. The reverse side of the mounts are shouldered for location, but I guess you could try to remove the shoulder and then slot them. But really, it would be simpler to just get some more of the correct type.
