Hello all!
Just picked up this 1987 NSR250R for a smokin' price
Previous owner told me it had been running about a year ago and the bike looks in reasonable condition seeing it's age.
Reason it was hung up is apparently there was some rust issues in the tank and debris had gotten into the carbs. I have rebuild kits for the carbs and I'm going to pull the spark plugs and the exhaust off to check the condition of the pistons. I'll probably squirt some 2 stroke oil into the cylinders before giving it a kick over. Plans are initially to update the wheels and suspension for more modern rubber. From there who knows.
For your viewing pleasure:
Also of interest is I have access to some mc18 parts including a set of cases and a tank and some other misc. parts. Also seen in the back of this pic are my current project, an 1989 FZR400 that I've done similar mods to including YZF600 front calipers, Aprilia/Brembo rear caliper, along with a Suzuki GSXR 4.5"x17" rear wheel and a Fox rear shock. More subtle mods are the re-shaped upper fairing and raised rear subframe to give it a more modern look.
Sorry about the lengthy intro, I'm stoked to have a smoker in the stable:D
Welcome,..... dont mention RS125,s to Si, he'll get all misty eye'd, and yep they are a blast, hope you enjoy the NSR. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto
Thanks for the warm welcome folks! And just for a backup bike you can see my 2015 R1 that I painted 60th anniversary colors(well before Yamaha released it as a 2016 model). Not shown are my 2001 ZX7R and 1991 ZX7R. I guess I am bike crazy. Also looking to pick up a couple more bikes including my old race bike as well as a 95 RS250 that I've been eyeballing for a couple years
Cheers all!
Pulled the carbs off to take a look inside and oddly enough, they were exceptionally clean. Replaced the float needles as on carb overflowed and puked fuel everywhere. Filled my makeshift fuel tank(a !qt spray gun cup) with 32:1 premix to fire the bike initially and to see if the injector pump is doing it's job. Question I need answered is how much oil should be coming out of the pump at idle etc?

Well after getting the bike running well enough to run it up and down the driveway, I come to find the tank has a few leaks due to rust.
MC16 tanks are non-existent in Hawaii. I don't have a brazing torch but I do have a butane torch so I used some acid core solder and apparently it does the job. However, if anyone happens to have a clean MC16 tank(color unimportant) I would be grateful....
