MC21 rear suspension removal/replacement

Sat Sep 30, 2017 6:03 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm in the last stages of refurbishing my MC21. I want to take out the existing standard rear shock unit and replace it with a refurbished SP unit with the remote. Can I ask three questions?

1) I understand that it would be useful to swap the springs over, fitting the longer R one to the SP unit. Is that correct?
2) I have no way to suspend the bike from above to release the rear suspension-would it be OK to use axle stands under the foot peg mounts, or reverse the front pegs and use those?
3) where should I mount the remote unit? Is there an attachment point?

Thanks in advance.

PS my spare fairing panels are in the classified section for anyone to make an offer. Seems a shame to throw them out!

I've supported my Fireblade using axle stands under the foot pegs. Did it on the nsr all the time, so no worries there.

If you follow this link you'll see how the shock resovoir is mounted.

You need a bracket that bolts on to the right hand main frame and then use a jubilee clip to fit the resovoir to the bracket.
