So if I was offered anything in the world I would chose an NSR500. It has always been my dream to own one ever since I was a child sitting on the floor of my sitting room while eating cearal watching Mick Doohan win on that beautiful Repsol Honda. I have realised that this dream will probably never come true but hey what can you do. But I was just wondering how much would they sell for these days and do any turn hands often? Who knows maybe my Bitcoin investment will explode in value _________________ John 3:7
You are still able to buy an NSR500V, the twin that Honda brought out to help the privateers, expect £50k plus, I am lucky to know several people that own one of these, and I believe Stephenrc45 who was a regular on here, ( he of GT performance ) still has one, I also have a very good friend who owns an early 500, of the type that Freddie Spencer rode, cant remember if its the RS500, or NS500, you will certainly need upwards of £100k for one of those. I doubt you will ever get your hands on one unless you rob the Honda museum. Better off to do what I did, go for a 250 and 125, pukka GP bikes, more affordable and a joy to ride without scaring yourself to death, well the 125 anyway, the 250 can get a bit hairy with close to 80bhp, ( Hondas figures not mine ), that's for my 92 model, at the end of the 250's reign in GP's the works NSR250 was around 100bhp. I can only try and imagine what it was like to ride one of those 180bhp 500's, I can remember watching Mick Doohan gradually turn grey during those years, and i'm convinced it was the stress and strain of hanging on to one of those beasts. sadly we only get to see these sort of machines nowadays at some classic events. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto
Yeah the NSR500V was the one i would rather, but 50K is well out of my price range. I have an MC28 that im rebuilding now tho. it will be nowhere near 100bhp Thanks for the Info, it helped a lot
The RS500s generally fetch around the £50k mark, the NSR500Vs anything from £80k up. We valued the 2001 DeeCee bikes at £125k, and the GP community didn't laugh at us, so I think we got it about right. The DeeCee's are special though. Despite not being Honda chassis, they are two of only five 2001 engined bikes. DeeCee got two motors, Shell Advance got one motor, and HRC kept two for themselves! The motors are much improved on the earlier NX6, and the DeeCees are pushing out around 10rwhp more than pre 2001 bikes! We estimate with the ceramic HRC carbs, which unfortunately had to be returned to HRC after every race (source: Eric Goosens, ex DeeCee chief mechanic) they were running around 140rwhp.
Rich's bike is an RS, but the guy who sold it to him still has a gorgeous NS500 in 1983 HRC Freddie Spencer colours (and another RS500). He still has a Shell Advance NSR500V too.
I've recently been offered Alex Barros' 1997 NSR500V, but it's way out of my price range. Funnily enough though, I was only thinking about a way around this again today! Just not sure I'm brave enough to take the plunge!
StephenRC45 doesn't own an NSR500V anymore, but his old bike is still in the GT Motorcycles collection. If you're ever in the Southwest and have the opportunity, a visit to GT Motorcycles in Plymouth is well worth it. They have the two 2001 DeeCee NSRs, two Bakker NSR500V Repsol specials (97 Aoki and 99 Gibernau reps), Laconi's Tecmas Elf, and of course the stunning TSR F.C.C. AC50M.
If you're into bore strokes, they also have full HRC spec RC45 and SP-1, the race kitted RC213V-S, their RC30 in full endurance spec, and a partially restored ex-Wayne Gardner RS850 (essentially the HRC prototype RC30).
The insurance man almost had a kitten when he visited us a few years ago and we went through the inventory with him! _________________ Andy.

thanks for the info Andy, now I definitely cannot afford a 500. I can dream I suppose. But I didnt know GT Performance had 2 NSR500's, I will defo take a trip with the wife to go see them. Shes very supportive of my NSR habit funnily enough, which seems to be contrary to what I hear from other forum members lol
ohh wow. I cannot wait to go there now. Im gonna travel all the way from Ireland just to see them. They look amazing. Maybe someday *contemplative face*

Will you regret buying it? possibly but I doubt it...and if so sell it, at least you will have scratched that itch.
Now ask yourself will you regret not buying it....?

Easy for me to say, I doubt I could get that decision beyond the first stage of the steering group in my house!!

Be good to make that trip to coincide with some sort of meet up, we have another good friend from Ireland, who has been known to make the odd trip over. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto

Don't know about the 500's, but certainly not for my 250 and 125, the only way I can get bits is when nos stuff turns up, still a lot of bits floating about for early 125's but for the early 250's hardly anything, certainly not from Honda, hence I been collecting all I can over the last few years, wouldn't have thought it was any different for the 500's. If you're not going to use them it's not so much a problem. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto
That’s what I suspected Les, if you can’t get parts then there is the danger of them being expensive ornaments and not being used in anger on the track as they were meant to be.
