So I was thinking, what is going to become of all these 2 strokes in 20, 30, 40 or even 50 years time. Young fellas these days seem to be more interested in their hair than anything else. I do not know one person younger than me who is into bikes let alone 2 strokes. I wonder will the 2 stroke market crash and will the NSR become cheap as chips. Or will they be bought up and become museum pieces? I personally see interest in them dying out because this generation has absolutely no interest in Bikes. I hope im wrong. what do you guys think??? _________________ John 3:7
I think enough people will still be enthusiastic about them to want to own them. Prices will hold as they become even more rare than they are now.
Look at steam engines, no one is alive that used them but they still have a following and prices are ridiculously high!
I think in time, 99.9% of them will end up as garage queens, as I would imagine that 50% already are now, and I hate to think what will happen to all the ex two stroke GP bikes, I have two of these and they are getting used less frequent as the years go by, the 125cc hasen't been used in anger for at least two years now, although the 250cc does get a couple of good runs every year, that will gradually dwindle, one reason is, it is too noisy for trackdays, you wouldn't think a little 250 two stroke was noisier than a modern superbike at full chat. But yeah, nippers nowadays aren't interested, one reason is the whole rigmarole to just pass your bike test nowadays, Hugo Ponsonby can pass his car test at 17 and could potentially be driving daddie's Ferrarri around soon after, but not so for a bike. Sad days indeed, rant over. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto
Like you say LES a 17 year old can pass his test on Friday in a Nissan note and on Monday he can use daddy’s 175 mph Ferrari ? He doesn’t have to ride round in the bubble car for any length of time to get used to 50 bhp,
The government hate motorcycles and everyone that rides them and the rules and regulations they have imposed seem to be working for them, far less young people becoming attracted to bikes,
In future please leave Hugo out of this, it’s not his fault he will never have to want for anything 😉
I think the points raised are all valid but in my opinion it is all about accessibility...you are correct it is much harder to get on two wheels at the moment, but that is not the only issue.
You can buy a car (one that will impress the girls, or boys for that matter) for near on nil deposit, pay £99 per month and hand it back after three years. Why would you even bother with a bike? Which in turn means you don't get bitten by the bug.
There is a lot that can be done to correct this, and I do not think that two wheels is necessarily a finished proposition. Governments will see that they can play a huge part in a low carbon, low congestion traffic solution.
Also wait until at 17 all you can buy is a four wheeled electric egg whisk, you might start looking around for something more exciting.
As for the original question, I think in general there are less and less of these bikes available and people are getting much more affluent (all around the world). I can see the Japanese buying them back from us one day soon!
Les: I think you better pass that 125 over for some TLC, I will happily make a racket on it at any track that would have me!
some very good points made here. Although without any new youth to be interested in the NSR's there will be no market for them in the future. Unless as Max said the Japanese buy them up and bring them back home.
Good morning Owen hope the pair of you are well, can you believe it’s five years ago we came and visited you and went and watched the crazy event with you people, uncle Albert has gone all funny and bought a couple of bikes with complicated valves and timing 🤔🤞, I let him have a go on the 28 track bike this week and he was impressed big grin, who knows I might get him back on an NSR you’ll never know,
Missed out on an event this year for a meet up but hopefully next year,
All the best Owen

Owen, the only way Johnny will get me back on an NSR is if he lets me back on my old girl, the way prices are going i couldn't afford another one now, in fact both of them old shonker bore strokes i recently bought were cheaper than i could get an NSR for now. At least i still got the two RS's. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto
