I'm new to this forum and am looking for some help with my NSR250 MC21. I purchased this bike as a project to fix up, at the moment the bike is a non-runner. I have tried to start it without doing any work to it and it wouldn't start. I feel a bit of basic maintenance and tweaking someone might be able to get it started. This bike was obtained from a friend who unfortunately passed away and his wife didn't know much about it.
Since having the bike I haven't had the time to do anything to it and now my life circumstances have changed. I am looking to sell it, but was hoping for anyone's advice on value and maybe if anyone is able to help me learn a bit more about this bike.
From what I know, my friend used this as a track bike, but I don't know how long it was sat unused/not started. There are no spares with it and no original bodywork. What you see is what you get.
It looks, on first appearances, in fairly good condition. First thing I'd do is pull the carbs (2 minute job on a race bike -- 5 mins on a street bike with an airbox) and check there's no "varnish" gumming up the jets/galleries. Next I'd put a new battery on it. NSRs can be notoriously difficult to start with a weak battery. _________________ Andy.

Thanks for the advice Andy. I will have a look when I next get some time.
Either way I am looking to sell the bike. It was supposed to be a project, due to the unknown history of the bike my plan was to rebuild the engine. But I no longer have the time and so this bike is just sitting in my garage and aging when I would much prefer it go to someone who can give it the time and looking after that this piece of bike history needs. What do you think is a reasonable asking price for a bike like this?

Honestly, you're asking the wrong person. I love NSRs with a passion, but I think the prices asked are horrendous, totally unrealistic, and unjustifiable, so better get someone else's opinion on that one! 🤣🤣🤣 _________________ Andy.

Couldnt agree more Andy, but as long as dealers ( no names ) keep asking these inflated prices, the private seller is gonna jump on the bandwagon. And sadly when someone advertises at a realistic price, someone is always waiting to pounce, for a profit. _________________ Proud Father of , 05 ktm 400exc supermoto 2018 honda crf rx supermoto

That CBR250RR was in lovely condition, and the engineering is wonderful. But it was a good £4k over-priced, in my opinion. _________________ Andy.

What makes me smile is people asking £1-2K for a Honda C90. Aren't they supposed to be free! Teenage scramblers _________________ Why do things simply when you can complicate them

Yeah, prices are crazy, there is an mc28 on flea bay listed for 28.5k USD. Granted it's got a load of trick bits on it but still, that's a bunch.
Although I confess I may have put that much into mine over the years!
You'll never get back what you put in... but many think that's the case. [Not "you" personally, Eric.]
It makes me cringe when I see adverts that say things like "£5000 spent on X, Y, Z upgrade..." and then tack £5k on the price expecting a prospective buyer to pay for their hobby!
If I ever sold my MC21, it would be sold as standard as I could make it. I'd be far more comfortable selling the HRC forks, shock, transmission, calipers, carbs etc. separately.
And yes, Rob, chicken chasers should be virtually free! Not only that, isn't the C50/C90 the most mass-produced bike [moped] of all time? Who would stupid enough to pay £1-2k for one? _________________ Andy.
