Clutch leaver return spring

Tue Mar 12, 2024 11:01 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Rebuilding my MC16 still and got an issue with my clutch spring (the one that is outside at the engine underside and where the clutch cable is being attached. It seems that the spring lost its tension, as when I engage the clutch leaver it does not spring back at all. The cable is oiled and properly attached. When I detach the cable I can operate the clutch arm and feel little spring action. Any suggestions ?

that's odd, I've never heard of that losing tension before. Is it an original?

yeah sounds like its time to take the clutch apart and inspect everything. Let us know how it goes getting her started.

What you describe above is exactly what happened to mine after being rebuilt with no use for 2 yrs
I warmed the engine up and then cable tied the clutch lever in

Left it in 2nd gear and on a paddock stand and over the next two weeks regularly rotated the back wheel by hand until one day it broke free - lazy fix I know but time was a easier and cheaper currency than pulling the engine apart
