I have an KV3L rear head and HRC pipe in my spares, wondering whether its worth fitting to my MC28 which will be pretty much standard bike bar maybe a mc21 flywheel and exhaust? If the consensus is to sell it to someone with a more highly modified bike, what should I ask for these these days? I also have a R rear head which has been damaged by what looks to be an errand roller at some stage in its life, I know BDK have repaired these for me in the past so I'll probably sell that one along too.
The simple answer is the rear head is more efficient due to the more centralised spark plug location. However, I would go out on a limb and say that both the difference and the benefit on a standard bike would be immeasurable.
What you will find is that the V-piece won't fit with the conversion unless you use the obscenely expensive NGK R5300A spark plug and [discontinued] cap, which has been known to cause issues with some PGM-IVs.
It's probably a £200 kit if you were to sell it. If you have the head gasket, spark plug, and cap too, it's a £300 kit. _________________ Andy.

Thanks Andy, I dont have the cap or plug - just the SP head in good shape and the hose for it. Id be happy to sell it for that kind of figure
Is there any value in the R rear had, given that its suffered damage?
Not without getting it repaired, and even then there's limited value really. I expect it's possibly not even worth what it would cost to repair, so you won't even break even.
Theoretically it could be used in the same manner as the SP rear head [on an R model] but I've never seen it done. You could possibly machine it to SP spec, but you'd need to machine off the H on the top and stamp L in it's place. Personally, I don't think it's worth the effort.
The issue is NSRs are extremely sensitive to compression changes. They run right on the edge already, and it's even recommended to run an HRC 0.6mm base gaket when doing to head conversion, so messing about with an R head trying to make it usable is very risky in my personal opinion. _________________ Andy.

Ok, thanks. I'll maybe stick it on ebay at .99p and let it go for whatever. Ive put the SP head on the classifieds for £150 posted based on your input above. Thanks for that.
