Wiring Question

Tue Jun 15, 2004 1:07 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi All:

I am returning my MC-21 to street rim, and decided to do the wire splice. On the track, I ran the HRC harness with the HRC derestrictor, and some years back, when it was on the road, I used the stock harness with a KISS box. Both setups always worked perfectly.

Anyway, I got a little surprise when I stripped back the sheathing to check out the old street loom for the splice. It already had 2 splices. The Dark Green wire running into the white plug is spliced to the Orange/Blue from the black plug. And the Dark Blue wire from the loom is spliced to Yellow going into the white plug. It almost looks like it was done at the factory. The wire is cut and stripped cleanly, and there are proper brass wire crimps, machine closed, on the splices. There was no sign of the splices from outside the loom.

So I have a dilemma. If I splice 12v. into the Orange/ Blue, it will also be run to the Dark Green wire. I don't know if this is OK or not. So if anyone has ever seen this splice, or knows what it's for, I'd appreciate any info you could provide.

this sounds like the confusion i had when trying to get my 21 running properly Wink . when you say the or/bu wire is spliced into the green is it furthur towards the seat than the pgm?
to do the wire splice as shown on this site you have to cut the or/bu wire then splice into the 12v feed, therefor the rest of the or/bu wire will continue down the loom where it attatches to the thick green wire which i beleive runs to earth (green-earth makes sense) as andys wire splice says the or/bl wire runs to earth in a standard loom.
i would suggest doing the wire splice as per nsr-world and try it, i had real problems to start with but only because someone had spliced an m max box in and not done it properly Evil or Very Mad . i found with the help of matt from tiga that the "splices" with proper brass cramps are factory fitted.
hope this was helpfull and not to confusing

what do ya recon dave..andy.

Yes, in the stock harness, the orange/blue wire goes straight to earth (ground).

You cut the O/Bu wire near the PGM so any other earth points are not effected, and then route it to 12v. The Bk/Wt wire it is spliced into is the most convenient wire that runs 12v from the ignition - it's the feed from the "kill switch".

Andy.

Thanks Andy. The TYGA site is very clear about that, too. I was just trying to confirm that there was not some goofy splices in my loom. I have several looms, so I took another one apart, and it was spliced the same way. So evidently, the splices I described above are factory splices.
