Hello all @nsr world im new and require some help!
I've have just got mc18 and it has some electrical issues: firstly I would be vey grateful if you could tell me where to download a wiring diagram for this model.
Secondly there seems to be a loose wire, this is black with a thin red stripe this seems to be from the M-max box and has current in it, if i touch the wire against the frame it it sparks a bit, any suggestions please?
Lastly I wanted to post pics on this post but I dont know how:P.
The MC18 Mk1 is designated R2J (R4J for an SP) and uses a PGM-CDI ignition. It is most easily identifiable by low silencers and a plain swingarm.
The MC18 Mk2 is desiganted R5K and R6K and uses a PGM-II ignition unit. The Mk2 is usually easily identifiable by high swept silencers mounted on chromed stingers, and a swingarm patterned like the frame, and with a torque-arm from the rear caliper to the back of the frame.
The Bk/R on the MC18 (all models) is the 12V feed to the light/multi-function switch on the left handlebar, and will be live when the IGN switch is in the ON position, regardless of the setting of the kill switch. _________________ Andy.

thx andy it is a mk2, i didnt quite understand the last part of post, this black and red wire connects at a juntion that comes from the m-max box. the wire has been cut very cleanly where does it go .... its also quite long about 10 inches long, im worried as this is live wire.
i would also need help locating throttle cable, front pv cables and the little unit that tells people you are using the front brakes.
the reason that i have so many probs is this bike was stolen and recoverd and they really had a good go at it, they removed the alarm sysem from the bike and cut some wires away from the fuse box it looks like.
The Bk/R wire should run from fuse 2 (10A) all the way to the front switch - no junctions. I imagine this is the wire the M-Max is (was) using for its power.
Best thing to do, I would say, is remove the M-Max (we don't like them here!!) and trace the Bk/R wire from beginning to end. Make sure it is a continuous wire from the switches' plug to the fusebox - rejoin/solder it as necessary.
Next, simply perform the wire-spice as per the MC21. The derestriction is outlined at the beginning of the ignition page in the 250 Tuning Section, and more detailed instructions can be found at the end of the page. If you do that, it elimiates one more thing from the mess that could be badly hacked up wiring.
We can help you obtain all the parts you need. Where are you located? _________________ Andy.

Its this wiring thing that worries me cos im crap i pm'd some 1 on the forum that has a whole wiring loom forsale, how would i identify what loom my bike takes as he only knows its from an 18?
or if any of youl ocal guys could give me a hand and youve got a friend for life:P
Doh just spoted the workshop page, i thought it was for repairs and low and behold a wiring diagram, isnt nsrworld clever hehehe:P
i would like to say thanks to the moderators and owner for this info.
A Mk2 MC18 wiring harness will have a black 16 pin oblong connector to plug into the PGM-II, the Mk1 MC18 harness does not! _________________ Andy.

Got a few different types of crimp connector also.
I`m not too struck on soldering vehicle wiring as can lead to problems if not done properly.
I use www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk in Derbyshire.
They sell a range of stuff including the original type Jap bullet connectors & clear insulating covers & the crimp tools also.

Its funny you should mention the old crimp connectors ,as i work for the V.A.G group and it they completely frown upon the use of solder and favour crimp connectors for repairs .
They also forbid the use of LED test lights, power probes and using multimetres to conduct continuity tests.
