Hello to all, my name is Max and I visit the site frequently because I'm a 2 stroke nut just like the rest of you. I have other bikes (no nsr) but now that I have an mc28, I figured I was worthy of registering. I'm hoping you nsr pros can help me out here. My title states its a 95' and it has rothman's colors with sp forks but the wheels don't appear to be magteks. Do I have an se with sp forks or an sp without magteks? Is there a way to tell by the vin # ? I appreciate any advice and I just want to say what a great site. Thanks, Max
sp and se forks are the same. Look on the spokes of the rim to see if you can see "Magtek" on them...the rear should have it on the right hand side. Also, for the year of the bike, I wouldnt completely believe that it is a '95. Not saying it isnt but mine is registered as a '82 honda...the loopholes we have to go through to get grey bikes registered in CA _________________ 1994 NSR250SE
se and sp forks are not the same, the '28sp had fancy blue adjusters and alledgedly (according to Graeme France) different internals, then again he was trying to sell me some to "replace" my se ones so he's likely to talk them up.
If it has the blue adjusters I'd be inclined to believe it's an sp, it's certainly the hardest part of a '28 sp to fake and the bit you'd struggle to find.
As far as I know there is no list of frame number to model available.
Is the bodywork real OE Honda Rothmans, i.e. it's plastic gel coat white and all decals, not painted at all? Does it look EXACTLY like this?
You can also just see the blue fork tops in that pic which incidentally cannot be retro fitted to se forks easily.
'95 is only one year out for a Rothmans.
Magteks turn up from time to time, I got some. As do the even lighter post '93 RS wheels.
It's also worth noting there are no late r '28's, Honda dropped the r model (or more likely had made too many already) from production in '95 and the sp in 96, the se ran till '99. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
1) does it have a dry clutch......if the answer is yes it either an SE/SP, if the answer is no its an R
2) assuming it HAS a dry clutch does it have MAGTEK one one of the spokes on each wheel and blue (cheesy) anodised bits on the fork tops......if the answer is yes its an SP if the answer is no its an SE
3) if it has a dry clutch and blue (cheesy) anodised bits but no Magteks then it is likely that its a SP that has lost its Magteks.
all the info you need. _________________ MC21SP - Roth-tax

hmmmm, mine has a dry clutch and it's an r
theres that much swapping about on bikes of our age its hard to tell, there must be a way of telling by frame no _________________ If you dont like the way that i ride.....Stop trying to keep up!!!!!
My point was a half hearted sp lookalike is easy, dryclutch, paintjob, suspension, some magteks if you can find them and it's job done.
Buy a tidy real '28sp should stand out like a sore thumb, oe decaled sp bodywork (as opposed to painted) and proper sp forks both being as rare as hens teeth.. _________________ Please do not PM me technical questions, if you can't find it on the Forum start a thread
If rgvmax is AKA RZmax then I think the bike in question can be found here http://photos.yahoo.com/rothmansmc18 in the 2-stroke gallery it is the last picture with my mc-18 next to it. _________________
Wow, thanks for all the replies. Hey Steve, yes its me rzmax. The bike does have a dry clutch, blue adjusters on the forks but no magteks. The paint has decals but the rothmans on the fairing looks like its painted. Its also missing the small rothmans decals that are by the turn signal on the fairing and the one on the mud guard. Thanks for the help.
