Hi all, Ive just aquired an NSR 250 mc16 anyone give me any good pointers of what to do with it? Its in need of a rear cylinder or it needs the old rear fixing as its got a big score in it I dont know too much about the bores on these nicosil engined bikes. Its also in need of the bottom half of the fairing. Anyone know where i can get the repairs and parts from in the UK?

welcome to to the forum. nice to have another mc16/ypvs owner aboard. stan stephens did my engine, apex leasure could also help. talk to jo, shes very helpfull. there is also a cylinder on e-bay at the mo. i was hopeing to steal it, but if you want it let me know so we don't bid it up between us.
as for a fairing. mc16 body work is like hens teeth. the only place i have come across that does any is the replica fairing company.
all the above have good web sites.
failing that give it to me. i'll give it a loveing home.

Try Langcourts at Weston Super Mare for a replate. I've had them do mine on both siezures, and although the second time it had to go back, they apologised profusely and corrected the problem within a week.

Cheers Jeff, i am watching that cylinder on ebay lol. are the cylinders interchangable? or is front different from rear? is the mc16 bodywork so different from the mc18?

i think the pot are the same. i'm sure dave will correct me if i'm wrong. i know the mc18 bodywork will not fit, without a lot of work i've looked into that one. i'm sure if you could get a complete fairing and all the fittings, it could be done but its not a simple bolt on job.

Dont worry i dont have a good record for the average life expectancy of a 2stroke i do tend to ride them Hard!!!!!

How the bugger do you de restrict them? is it wireing? carbs? exhausts? cdi?

mmmm ok then how can i extract more power? ive herd changing the loom an box as well as the carbs/reedblocks for the mc18 stuff gives a significant improvement?

Hello Mike, and welcome to the Site!

I took a phone call from a friend last night, and I'm guessing we were discussing your recent acquisition!! :D

Couple of things that will help you out immensely are MC18/21 carbs/inlet manifold/reed blocks (MC16 is 28mm, '18/'21 is 32mm) and MC18 electronics. The MC16 electronics aren't restricted, they are just "old hat". The MC18 has a much better ignition system.

One of the guys here has a set of race pipes. If he owns up then maybe you could sweet-talk him into measuring them up or even getting them copied, as they are rarer than Kawasaki GP championships!

The motors respond exceptionally well to porting, but 60hp can be attained with stock porting - you'll be more in need of some good brakes/suspension by that point!! ;)

As for the guy with the pipes I know a man whod be willing to copy them at a more than realistic price!

Carbs i may have but will still need the reed blocks/manifolds.

Now wheres the best place to get gaskets etc?

ok ok i own up, its me! i have GP style pipes on my MC16. PM me your e-mail address and i'll send you a pic ( when i get my scanner back on line ). if you like the look of them we'll sort something out. or pop down the M3 and have a look for yourself. also see daves post about the body work. keep with it, its good to have another mc16 owner doing something to keep the old girls going

The inlet manifolds are different, so yes, you will need them. Your best bet would be MC21 carbs/inlets/reed blocks/HRC rectifiers.

One side of the inlet manifold is rubberised, so you only need a gasket between the reed cages and the crankcase (so long as the manifold is in good condition!), and you can make the gasket out of gasket paper from a bike/car parts shop.

Most gaskets/parts can be bought in the UK from any Honda dealer but use our Online Parts Manual to find the relevant numbers (MC16 section is nearly complete, just ask if you can't get the numbers you need) else 99.9% of Honda shops will laugh you out of the store without them!! :D

Many MC16 parts will be unavailable new now. But alternatives can often be used, and there are still sources out there for second-hand stuff. Try TYGA Performance (on Links page) for spares.
