Rear wheel bearings.

Thu Jun 15, 2006 4:31 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm trying to ge the rear bearing out and they are not cooperating. I just can't get enough of a bite on them to drift them out. Any suggestions?

Gently heat the wheel surrounding the bearing.

I had to cut one out with a dremel. Just wouldn't budge.

I wonder what would happen if I tossed it intot the pwder coating oven. That is what I normally do, but usually I don't have to deal with paint and rubber seals. It may not be an issue since I'm doing this to get the wheels powder coated anyway. I was hoping not to buy new bearings, but I guess it wouldn't hurt.

The oven will kill the bearings as you'll degrease them completely. Try using a flat punch or large flat bladed screwdriver. It may help if you haven't tried them already...

I put the wheels in the oven and the bearings just fell out.

I tried several different punches and drifts. Nothing I had worked. The bearingd seals look OK (preliminary), but I'll pop the seals, clean, and relube if they look OK. If not, I'll just buy new ones.
