Last friday I was on a trackday and found out that I'm using 14-39 gearing, but even so, I only get into 5. gear at 12000rpm at the end of the straight, or if changing to 6. at about 11000 rpm.
The bike is derestricted, but I think still has the original chambers.
It looks to me that I need a 14-42 gearing to use the power I have.
( or maybe I should get those HRC chambers installed, but that d..... NSR always need maintenance. This time it just stopped and smelled of burnt cable or electronics ) _________________ Poul

The original pipes are very good, if somewhat heavy.
I have 42 on the rear of mine from racing, and I've kept it on the road as I prefer the response - NSR ownership isn't about speed or fuel consumption!
Have you had it on a dyno? _________________ MC21SP Plaything

No, its difficult as there aren't many dynos, especially not for bikes, here and some of them won't dyno a 2 stroke, as the say it will damage their sensors and in the end its also expensive.
What do you have in front ? _________________ Poul

Er, good question. Standard whatever that is! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Did you have any mods, chambers, on that racing machine ? _________________ Poul

There's tyga pipes with carbon cans, tyga stuffers and reeds, HRC ignition unit and jet kit, big intake to the airbox and no air filter. Made about 65hp reliably. I still ran the injector pump.
I'm sure if I did some porting work and what have you 70 would be achievable, but I can't afford to rebuild it all the time! _________________ MC21SP Plaything

Gearing needs to be tuned to your application much like jetting and just about everything else. You should gear for the fastest part of track. My last track day I ended up at 16/40 and was touching 13000 in 6th gear at my braking point. Thats how I gear for the track. I'm no expert tuner but it works for me. _________________ 1995 A kit TZ 250
