parts availability in brisbane, aus

Sat Aug 26, 2006 4:31 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

I've been looking for a laundry list of parts to get my bike back on the road again. Unfortunately, I've been having issues with the only place I know of to get nsr parts in Brisbane.
After searching through this place, I've only seen a reference to CMS, but last time I called them they put me on to some wanker who assured me that crank bearings were not sold seperately, but that I had to pay them $1500 for a brand new crank which would somehow come with the bearings irrevocably attached.
As I se no benefit in either paying $1500 for a ten buck part, or waiting three months to get my filthy mitts on them, does anyone know of either a different place I can source a wide variety of new parts, or possibly someone at CMS who knows what they're talking about?
Cheers

Honda doen't sell the crank bearings without a crank, but look here
http://www.nsr250.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=201

For parts contact Tygaperformance or Apex Leisure on the internet.

Actually you were told correctly. The bearings are not sold seperatly (by Honda), and they do come on a new crank. If you look in the classifieds there is a guy in Aus that sells the bearings, but they are way more than $10 so get out your wallet. The next trick is to find somebody who can actually replace the center bearing since its a bit tricky.

Well pickle my grits. I feel a right tool for not finding out the truth before wagging my chin. Embarassed

Thanks for the link to the crank bearings guy, pbekkerh.

I hadn't heard of apex leisure before, but I've been through the tyga site before and couldn't find several of the things I need. I'll double-check with this apex leisure site though, maybe they've got them.

While I have your collective knowledge to go from, though, does anyone do kits for rebuilding, for example a gasket kit or big and small end bearing kit? I'm trying to replace all these and more, but would prefer to do it as cheaply as possible.

Lastly. j911brick, you mention that the center bearing can be a bit tricky. I'm doing all the work that I know how to do myself, with my mechanic housemate helping with the rest. We weren't planning on paying any specific two-stroke professionals to do anything except for the jetting. When you say tricky, do you mean "search the forums and read the instructions" tricky, or "oh god you don't want to do this unless you're some kind of gp mechanic" tricky?

Thanks to you both for the quick replies.

GP mechanic couldn't do it either. You need a crankshat specialit with lots of tooling and talent. My local guy wouldn't touch my crank. The only place I found was Falicon in florida and they wanted $100 just to take the crank apart for inspection. If the crank pins were bad, the crank was junk, which is what we expected anyway. So it was like $300 labor, and $300 for the brearings, plus $50 for a used rod. I decided it was better just to spend the extra $100 for a new crank. The guy selling the bearings can probably hook you up with a good crank repair man.

They do sell a gasket set for the MC21 but I don't think anybody has bought one so the contents are unknown. I asked about it when I started my project a couple months ago and was told a set was not available. But I now have a parts manual and its in there. For the rest the other parts you have to buy everything seperatly.

I have a good contact for parts in California. You need to check all the angles because shipping and duties is going to kill you. In the end you may find it cheaper just to buy locally.

just send them a mail asking for the parts you can't find.

The outer bearings on the crank can be changed by a specialist. They are the most common fault on a crank anyway.
This is economically feasible. I had it done and its running for the second year now.

There is a gasket set on ebay. Nobody knows it. Buy it and tell us about it. Very Happy

You can also use the partsmanual and make your own set. I did that when my crank failed after 12minutes of ownership and no previous NSR (or crank) experience.

In the end Honda can supply all the parts Shocked
maybe http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/ is cheaper than Honda

hey, nice to see another Brisbaneite on here. Let me know how you go as I'm as interested as you are.

In case you hadn't already seen the other threads, the only other supplier of NSR bits in Aus seem to be in Melbourne - ie "NSR imports" (no I don't have a contact, but the CMS guys can hook you up - believe it or not, they have a reasonable idea about the nsr - but nothing compared to the knowledge on here- as the owner of the place just fixed one up for himself). There's Also BC-components (a tyga reseller) and southerncross who has a fair number of basic second hand spares.

Hail, fellow subject of Beattie. As I understand it, NSR Imports closed down a while back, or they weren't dealing with NSRs any more. I called a couple of years ago looking for gaskets and they told me they didn't have any parts and weren't getting any more.

I feel somewhat sheepish for slagging off a company when I was the one who didn't know his proverbial from a hole in the ground, but I have had mixed experiences at CMS. One of the guys there is very helpful every time I talk to them, then I'll tget put on to a different person who tells me that they refuse to deal with NSRs any more, then I get different advice from a third person and so on. Either way, as soon as I can get the parts manual to work without crashing my browser I'll give them a ring again, I'd much rather buy stuff from a local shop (I live a stones throw away from CMS) than someone overseas.

Regarding the NSR that's been done up there, are you talking about the MC21 Rothmans? Mark at CMS told me that one of their young mechanics did it up, rather than the owner. Either way it's a beaut looking bike.

If your looking for NSR imports, ring Frangston Suzuki, and ask for Marty..... He still owns (and barely operates) the business..... Most likely he'll knock you back despite his MASSIVE cache of spare parts! worth a try though...... be warned, he'll try to sell you his $125k nsr stock to you most likely !

good luck!
