Gear oil for MC21

Thu Oct 14, 2004 5:18 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I'm fairly new to NSR.I have a '92 MC21 and want to change the gear oil. What kind of oil and weight (90W?)do you use? How many quarts do I need and how often do I need to change it? Thanks in advance.

I think I've got ATF oil in mine, and the quantity is dependant on your clutch - mine's dry so there's less oil in there - fill it to the right level by the dipstick.

I also use 2T Motul Transoil Expert 10W40. From what I've been told 750ml-800ml is about right. It's a pain in the arse when it's time to top up and your dip stick is broken Mad

Are you sure your dipstick is broken? I ask because the stock dipstick is kind of funky looking - looks like it could be broken but actually isn't.

P.S. FWIW, i usually get about 700 ml in on a gear oil change.

I'd be very surprised if you all have broken dipsticks... the dipstick is very short and can "look" broken!

I'll see if I can post a photo or if there's a picture in the manual to scan.

Andy.

I just changed the gear oil on my MC21. When I openrd the filler cap before I remove drain plug, about 200-300ml of oil came out of the filler hole. I just put about 800ml of new oil like you guys said. Was the previous owner overfilled it?

p.s how do I post a photo?[/url]

i should think the last owner filled the gear box up to the level on the dip stick, with the bike on the side stand.
