Mon Nov 13, 2006 10:06 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Guys

My MC21 is fitted with PGM II other MC21 as i saw they come with PGM III

the bike has gps and TPS as i saw.

Is this strange or what

Any defference from III? My main question is the wire splice is the same proceedure as PGM III? cable colors e.t.c?

same same. Just ignore the GPS splice, as the MC18 didn't have a GPS, just a neutral switch.

The PGM-II wire splice is the same as the PGM-III.

Two possible reasons for a PGM-II on an MC21:

1. It's an F3 wiring harness and PGM-II - but then you would (most likely) have no lights, no GPS, and no TPS.

2. It was cheaper to replace a dead PGM-III with a PGM-II and harness at some point!

I suspect No.2!

No, the RC Valve should work in exactly the same way, regardless of PGM-II or PGM-III.

Several possibilities here:

1. The PGM-II harness doesn't match the RC Valve servo (ensure that the wires at the connectors between the servo and harness correspond - if they don't, poke them out of the connector and re-arrange them to the correct pattern) as there are some wiring variations between models.

2. The servo is buggered, and that's what's caused the PGM-III to fail, which has in turn caused the PGM-II to fail! It's (nearly) always the RC Valve circuit inside the PGM that fails.

3. The RC Valve actuator cables are incorrectly assembled. One could be trying to open and the other trying to close! Don't dismiss it!! Smile

There are other possibilities too, but explore the above first!

Quick check is to switch the ignition (and kill-switch) on and then disconnect the TPS on the carburettors. The RC Valves should open to the "setup" position. Tutn the ignition back off and reconnect the TPS. Switch the ignition on and you should see/hear the Valves return to the closed position.

If this doesn't happen, disconnect all the actuator cables and try again. If still nothing, double-check the wires at the connector between harness and servo match. Failing that, it's time for another PGM and/or servo.

Final thought

I check the bike and yes you are right the harness has been replaced to fit the PGMII. But i found a PGMIII harness and a PGMIII Unit

I guess the servo circuit in the PGMII is Busted.

is it worth to change the harness and fit the PGMIII? any major deferences to Engine advance or is not worth it?

Thanks Guys

Simply a case of economics I would've thought!

If you can get a working PGM-III and harness for less than another working PGM-II, then go back to PGM-III.

For what you are doing with the bike, it's not going to matter which is fitted, so long as it works!! Smile
