RC Valve Trouble / Tapping

Sat Nov 18, 2006 11:08 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Guys,

I have this problem with my rc valve in my mc18. I hear it tapping. when I disassemble the headers and touched the rc valve im positive that its the rc valce cause it has huge amount of play. I think matt or andy told me in a forum that it is big trouble cause it is a danger to the piston rings. but what should i do? I tried to keep them open by removing the cables and put in some kind of stopper where the cables were remove to keep the valves open. I ran the bike and it feels like it lost huge amount of power and stability in the lower revs but boy it feels like heaven on upper rev range. but here my big problem. I want the bike to be stable at lower rev and have power that i need on corner exits but I cant get that without the RC Valve. And I know honda doesnt make them anymore and I cant get hold of the parts here in our place. Can there be some kind of repair that I can do to tighten the rc valve. I dont know if its the shafting to the valve itself which is worn. but it has lots of play. what can i do about this guys? and suggestion?

First thing to do is take it all apart and post pictures!* No-one can suggest anything until we actually see what's wrong with it!

*And I mean pictures we can see... not something taken at a distance of 20mm with a mobile phone!! Smile

Thanks for the reply Andy, I'll remove them right now and clean them up then post it here in a good quality photo.

One more question, is it possible that my RC valve were not set correctly thats why they are tapping?

Could be slack cables, but I guess that would be immediately apparent.

You will probably see what's wrong as soon as you pull it apart.
