Registering my track bike

Fri Nov 24, 2006 4:17 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I finally got round to getting a kill switch with start button (to use for a horn) so that I can get my track bike road legal. I have been a bit lazy and not touched any of my bikes for a couple of weeks due to my boken little finger Embarassed .

A question for you guys in the UK, has anyone registered a previously non registered bike in the UK recently? I know I need to get proof of year before I send the stuff off to DVLA with an MOT certificate. Does anyone have an address and details of what I need to send and how long its likely to take?

Cheers

Look on the DVLA website, under registering your vehicle.
You need a whole Heep of stuff.
Your main problem will be if you don't have proof of year of manufacture and the customs clearance forms, to prove that the import taxes have been paid.

I thought there was a way of getting the age from honda by frame number? I guess no one on here has done it recently.

I know Barry did it last year with his MC21,I guess I will have to see if he can remember.

Cheers

And move the tax disk form one bike to the other depending on which one you are planing on using at the time or apply for a duplicate disk:D

If you are having trouble proving the age etc you can get it on a "Q" plate. The last time I done this it was very easy ( a while ago i have to admit). You take it for an m.o.t. they put the chassis number on the cert instead of the registration, you get it insured send m.o.t., insurance and appropiate dvla form off and you get the log book and tax back through the post.

Not sure about using my number plate from my other bike. The bike is stripped of all lights etc so I think the police may be a bit suspicious anyway, so I really want to get it fully legal; I have it insured currently using its frame number so I am half way to being legal.

Q-plate is an option but I would rather get an age related plate. Maybe I should try honda to find its manufacture year by its frame number.

http://www.honda.co.uk/

Click on contact just under the picture.

Their address is there but give them a call first as you will need to find out how much it is to get them to do the age check. I think it was something like £32.50!?

All you need to do is send them a letter with the chassis number and the money and they will post you back a letter showing its age. Took about two weeks to come back.

I'll give you a buzz tomorrow.

I used a company called Classic Services in Manchester to get age verification for a CR500 I had.
I can`t remember who told me about them, could`ve been the DVLA as I rang them asking about how to register it.
I should be able to find the number for Classic Services.
Will get back to you.

Just rang classic services, sounds like a good guy, he even knows his NSR's pretty well having owned a fair few of them including a MC18 F3.

You just need to put £25 pound and few details in the post to him and he will supply a certificate stating year of manufacture that can be used by DVLA to register the bike.

Thanks for the contact Chester!!!
