Strange starting method!!!

Thu Feb 08, 2007 10:25 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Sorted out the jetting had 140 went up to 150 bike runs clean all the way up with good plug color.

Other problem still remains though.

In order to start the bike i remove the lower cylinder plug and poor some fuel inside. Then the bike starts form first kick. If i switch off the bike it can start again after lets say 10-20 min.
Now if i try to start the bike the next day all the same again.
I've checked the tank breath ok, The carbs are clean ok, i have a strong spark, what is suspect is that the bike doesn't draw enough fuel at kick.
Is there any possibility would be a blocked air solenoids?
The compression feels good, even if i dint make a proper check. And when the bike starts it runs really strong,

I have an MC18 flywheel on the my MC21 does this have any relation due to less advance?

My MC21 was a pig to start from the day I bought it, 12 years ago.

Only since the latest rebuild has it been better, but it's still not a great starter.

Fontyyy on the other hand (as well as some others) can start his by hand!

I've had ones that you can start by hand, one 28 I had starting first kick with a tiny bit of choke when it was -10 here one morning!

My current one is complete biatch to start and usually involves rolling down a hill to bump start... I wouldn't think anything is wrong with yours. just make sure you don't use any throttle at all for the first kicks.

I mean is spark plug heat range has to do with starting problems in winter?

BR9ECM in top cylinder head, R5300-10 in the (HRC) lower cylinder head... 5 degrees the other afternoon... started! Smile

Before the rebuild, BR9ECM in both cylinders (as specified by Honda). I would strongly recommend against messing with plugs to try and solve a starting issue.

Both my bikes get a shot of dieselstart if they've been standing more than a month.
If started regularly, they start start ok, but not always at first kick.

My '18 starts pretty much 2nd or 3rd propper kick if its used every other days or so, If its been stood over a week it normaly takes a few more. Needs a little throttle when hot but starst 1st or 2nd kick

The '21F3 starts pretty much first bump with a bloody great BING!

Edit: tsk, spelling
