Don't know. I doubt it's been done as the RD engine wasn't the best out there. I've heard quite a few stories of the unreliability and awful fuel consumtion from the RD500. I should think the engine is way too wide to be honest, and the carbs are mounted on the sides too.

Doesn't stop me wanting one mind...

Why not get a TYGA 300cc kit instead?

had a 500lc for a bit, lovely bike but scary sh*t, you have to be best buds with the AA too, cant think why you would want to put a 500 motor in though it would make a good drag bike. wooooooooh weeelieeeee snappppppp push back to the pits,
saw a kawasaki 750 triple drag bike once, scared me just to look at it, dam near pooped my self when he started it

It wouldn't be anything without that MC21 Gull-Arm though!! ;)

Seriously though, it's a nice looking bike. Reminds me of a project I so nearly persuaded a friend in Florida to a few years ago - an NS400 in a TZR250RC chassis. I wanted to build a KR Modenas replica... ooh, so close, but he went and sold all the bits!

Still begs the question "Why?... Why would you want to put the boat anchor of an RD500 motor in an NSR?" though! If you were going to mutilate an NSR chassis, surely an RG500 would be the better choice - it was a much more drastic piece of engineering in my opinion.

Rick Porter (R.P. Racing) has done an NS400 with NSR250 running gear and bodywork, which looks rather nice, but it is still an NS frame.

Andy.

i supose the ultimate nsr would have to be two nsr motors grafted together who thinks that's possible or does anyone know who can do it?
Thanks for the interesting links! End Can Exclamation

Can the venerable RD350 engine go in? And would there be much point? The extra cubes give better torque, but with the TYGA 300 kit, I guess there's little in it.

What about the Rotax 450cc two stroke engines they use in Skidoo's?

Well there is a great reason why I would like the RD500, its really for my RSV500, its from a small company in Portugal, they are almost ready to release an engine, that makes 200hp imagine that in **** MC21 haha. Check it out if u think I am lying.

I'm working on an 350 YPVS engined '21 at the moment (slowly). I'm sure a TYGA 300 kit would be alot more sophisticated, but then if you're poor like me, a 60hp Yam motor is good enough (ie..cheap enough).

having ridden both bikes I can see why you would want to do this but what it would do handling wise I don't know. The 500 does pull like a trooper but throw some bends at it and it goes backwards it is one heavy lump but still a nice bike. Have you ever thought about using ns400 engine tune it and big bore?

For 500cc, the general opinion of the best option, is to put a RG500 in a RGV250 or Aprilia RS250 chassis.

For best horsepower pr kg, I think a roadgoing Honda RS250 (anyone for sale ?) or NSR with RS engine would come close to the 500cc.

But it can't compete with the sound of a V4 2-stroke Very Happy

There is an RG500 engine been put into an NSR - looks very very well done.

I think you are giving the RD500 motor a bit of a rough ride - it's a good engine, not too heavy as a lot of if was magnesium. It's downsides are a poor inlet system.

90 deg intake boots, small carbs, small reeds and small transfers. But you can still get 110 rear wheel HP from one.

Which would kinda kick sand in the face of ANY tuned 250 NSR!

I remember a few years ago when I still lived in Modesto Ca. A friend of mine was in town for a visit, so I took him around a few of the local shops to meet some of my friends. I remember taking him into Brian Turfrees shop and having a look at Eddie Lawsons Kart as well as Wayne Raineys.
Normal TZ250 powered stuff Rolling Eyes

I took his pic standing in front of Eddie and Waynes Kart. I was instructed in so many words not to take pics of the Modenas KR triple engine kart that was being built in the back of the shop, Man that would be a fun drive!!
