Need help resurrecting an MC21.......It's too nice to part out and it's titled. It backfired and stopped running a couple years ago, so i stuck it away in storage until recently. Can't seem to get any spark, and i found two charred wires on the left side of the bike along the frame close to the battery area. larger gauge greens that splice into each other, and a smaller gauge green with silver dots and no tracer. I'm no mechanic by any means and would like to find someone that i can take it to to get her going again. I live in Missouri and of course the dealers here wont touch it. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!
Not having any luck getting them to post...........Wow! if i remember correctly, back when I bought this machine (6yrs ago) you were the definitive opinion on these things. Thanks for having a look.....Maybe, at your convenience, give me a call? Any help would be MOST appreciated
Check out your local mechanics for any good 2-stroke dirt bike, quad or snow mobile shops. A 2-stroke is a 2-stroke when it comes down to it.
You will most likely need to "manage" the whole parts process, as well as supply details such as schematics, work shop details (torque, etc).
I would not suggest a dealer, as they are working the clock, and not going to put the time/detail into your bike a true 2-stroke tuner will do.
Beyond that, your true best bet is to use one of the more knowledgeable tuners outside your area, ship the engine and let them do the work. Forks and basic stuff like that any mechanic that works on a modern sport bike can handle.
I just shipped my RS engine from ATL to San Fran for like $120.00 to get it built, it was well worth it as the tuner went through and measured everything to make sure I knew what I had, and what I could continue to use doing new top ends. _________________ Charles Gallant
Thanks, and I agree that at the end of the day, it's only a two stroke. I live in an area where progressive thinking isn't always the order of the day. I've gotten some good west coast leads now that I'll pursue, and a few overseas suppliers for parts together as well. Thanks for the advice and look forward to any advice along the way. Will be a regular visitor from here on in.
For new parts (seals, gaskets, pistons, bearings, etc.) check out Craig at Redline Motorsports (http://www.redline-ci.com) he is in California and is very quick about shipping and has very good pricing.
And of course Tyga for other parts/used parts is a good option.
When/If you ship the engine, pull the plugs/cover the holes with tape and do as much cleaning as possible on the enigne as you can. No mechanic likes to work on dirty engines, and no customer likes to pay shop rates for a mechanic to clean things up in order to work on it. _________________ Charles Gallant
Yep, Craig is the best. He gets me all my NC35, MC28 and VJ23 parts as well as my RS125, RS250 parts, when I had those bikes. I'm now stuck in Aprilia heaven on a RSR125 so I have to get parts elsewhere.
As for rebuilding the motor, yes, we do 2 strokes all the time. As Charles says, a good 2 stroke tuner anywhere can do it. Kevin Murray at MCE Racing can as well, but he's a bit expensive. Clint or myself can also do it at our shop as we both race and build 2 strokes.
I think it best if you can find someone in your area or within a days drive or so and bring the whole bike, minus bodywork, so that it cvan be run and fully tested. We have a dyno so that helps as well so perhaps you can find a tuner with a dyno. Check the DynoJet and Factory Pro websites for a tuner in your area and see if they have 2 stroke experience.
Hope this helps,
