hello all !
how would you people stop cracks in plastics getting worse ? I'm not at the stage of a full repair yet but a few cracks are noticeable and will only deteriorate over a summer of ring a ding zing !
thanks Andy for the tip. i've another crack forming in the offside middle panel. this is more of a concern as i don't want it to start damaging the decals. mmmmmm......
has it gone right through on the middle section or just on the inside?
if its just on the inside try some white plastic filler!!
it sets like plastic and can be painted over you will only need a smear and it will give it a little strenth!!!
it's gone right through but not damaged the decals yet. if you look close there's a few hairline cracks next to it. looks like it's been under a bit of stress for a fair while. so now i've started riding it again it's started to split.
do you have to pull the fairing tight to get the bolt in or is everything lined up . if so you could bend the brackets to suit, of not then i would wrap the bike in cotton wool when riding.... sorry.

fair comment banshee, the fit is a bit tight, probably not helped by my spacer giving the jollys a bit more room. i could of course cut the plastic to make my pipes fit but i know it's not looked upon fondly where original bodywork is concerned.
i reckon a decent repair then a bit of manipulation of the mounting points is in order.
You should be able to loosen off all the fairing mounts and jiggle it around to pretty much clear the pipes. You may still need a small spacer on the bottom right-hand-side (clutch side), but there's usually just enough "adjustment" to clear.
You shouldn't need to bend anything. _________________ Andy.

FWIW, I've a set of MC16 fairings which are pretty brittle due to age. Last crack I had to fix I used a combination of rewelding with a hot soldering iron and then re-enforcement by taking some metal mesh flyscreen and pressing into the plastic with the hot soldering gun. Hopefully it will work The screen was applied to the backside of the panel btw.
Oh yeah, the crack was an old one which had been previously repaired using one of the chemical solvents. Solvent just made the plastic more brittle and wasnt done that well.
