Owners name is Shawn Sundheim, bike is in FL. He works for Ducati NA.
He says "The bike, as you can see, is super clean. We bought it as a spare B bike and haven’t ridden it. It was set-up and ridden by a top 5 AMA pro so it is right in every way. Fortunately, my A bike has been nothing short of perfect, so I have not had to use this one. Everything on this bike is right with no crash damage or cracks/dents/damage of any kind. The only thing anywhere on it is a small hole drilled in the swingarm for some data acquisition stuff he had on it."
Looking to pickup for F2 next year with AFM

$8500 is a little pricey with very limited spares (really none, as jetting and sprockets are not spares). I would also try to get a feel for what amount of mileage is on the crank and top end.
Get as many detailed photo's as possible of the bike without the body work on it. You can tell by how clean a bike is as to how well it was maintained.
Honestly a GP bike should be nothing short of as it came from the factory in terms of cleanliness.
If I lived a little closer, and gas wasn't stupid expensive, I would make a run down and check it out for you. But that shouldn't stop you from asking for references on the bikes condition. I am sure he races, so there have to be other racers in the area who can give you some input on the bike. If he has raced USGPRU, talk to some of those members to see if they know him, how he prepares his equipment, as well as anything about this bike.
As for F2 with the AFM, this would be a good bike for that class (if it's in good shape). There are a good number of riders already running RS's so you should gave some support there in the club. Also, Roland Cushway in Vallejo knows these bikes inside and out, so you can get him to help you out for his bargain basement prices. THen there is Kevin Murray up at THill who knows 2-strokes.
No matter what you get, a GP250 bike is something that is amazing compared to an NSR. It's a whole new thing! _________________ Charles Gallant
Additionally, a bike that has sat around too long probably has not been maintained and will be subject to allot of problems. Were the carbs and cooling system drained? The suspension will likely need to be rebuilt. Keep in mind that just about everything on this bike only has a lifespan of about 300 miles.
I would be interested in seeing some better pictures.
Like Charles said: riding this bike is like nothing else and its worth the effort (if you can afford it).
Unless the bike was absolutely perfect in every way, and had a totally fresh motor, and fresh tires, its still not worth $8,500. I only paid $4,500 for mine which is a nice (but not perfect) '93 with fresh '98 bodywork, but otherwise its virtually the same bike, except the '98 runs unleaded fuel. _________________ james

Ok guys, here is some more info from the current owner:
The bike is definitely a 2000. It was Derrick King's B bike when he was riding AMA 250 for the GP Tech team.
The bike was bought 2 ~ 3 years ago but hasn't been raced for the last 1.5 years. The bike has seen little racing since purchased as the current owners A bike has been doing fine.
The top end was rebuilt when purchased and since then has seen little track time. The owner says the bike only has about 1000 miles on it. He says it's the cleanest 2000 he has ever seen. Everything is in excellent condition. The bike has been maintained "race ready" as a B bike.
The bike has never been down hard. It has slight damage on the peg, bar end and lever from a minor low side, low speed. It didn't wear through the bodywork. The frame, swing arm and forks are perfect, no nicks, gouges, etc.
The wheels are perfect and have no marks from changing tires. He says they are the factory wheels and have seen only a few tire changes. The only spares are jets and sprox.
I realize this may be a high asking price but considering how hard these bikes are to find and it's condition, I might have little room to bargain. The owner isn't in a hurry to sell it and feels the bike is worth the asking price. He doesn't seem willing to negotiate.
If I get the bike I'll do a full tear-down and rebuild as I don't trust anyone's work but my own, especially on 2-T Gp bikes. My plans are for racing it next season. I am hoping I can talk him down a bit as I have to ship it from Florida.
You do know there has been one on ebay with a good racing history. I think its in Dallas. _________________ james

I wouldn't worry too much about a spares package so long as the price is right, and the overall condition is good, as you can still get everything for the NX5/NXA. If it were an NF5, then it would need some serious consideration, as parts for those are becoming difficult (but still not impossible) to source.
Even a bike that comes with spares is usually going to have used spares not new, anyway! A GP crank with a few hundred miles on it isn't of much use to anyone really, and no-one's going to "give away" too many $100+ pistons without adjusting the sale price accordingly! _________________ Andy.

you shoudl see the spares package I have for my bike. And the majority of it's new
Of course I do have a good amount of slightly used parts that will fill in at a pinch. Had a spare crank that had maybe 100 miles on it. Bummer I had to use it up, as now I don't have a spare anymore.
But I tend to make sure I have at least 2 of everything new that I generally go through on a regular basis.
Top ends
brake pads
chains
set of plugs
reed petals
clutch plate packs
beyond that I have new spares of carb seals, side case seals and pretty much anything else that I just might need that will be needed to do a quick rebuild/repair.
I then have any spare that I take off prior to being warn out just in case I need it in a pinch.
beyond that I have a spare shock, radiator, complete set of internal and external gears (yes, I have pretty much every optional internal gear), cables, bolts, nuts, dowel pins, bearings, spacers, brackets, body work, levers, rims, etc.
All that generally goes to the track with me. It wasn't until I broke a frame that I realized I missed one or two important items in my spare package. Figure a second back up bike would simple take care of that. Just don't have the funds to come up with another bike (or can justify it for a sometime wannabe club racer).
As for the ebay link.
That's pretty expensive for a buy it now price. I think the seller is looking for someone from Europre to buy it and have it shipped. That's the only way they will sell that bike for such a high US $ amount (for 6500 GBP, it's not a bad deal, but $10500 USD?). _________________ Charles Gallant
Yeah, but my point is it's all still available for the later RS, so I don't think a bike should be dismissed if it doesn't have the spares with it... so long as it's cheap enough in the first place. _________________ Andy.

I had a good conversation with the owner of the bike on eBay! He wants $10,200 for it. The high points of the bike are a new engine (case, cyl, heads, pistons, etc.) with 2 races on it, 93 Hp at the wheel, full WP suspension.
The bike is was bought new, in the crate, in 2005. About 2900 miles total. Not crazy about the black frame and swing arm or the tail section. I am not too worried about the spares but they'd be nice to have. I guess I'd really rather build my own kit though as I rarely trust other people judgment.
No, really - this crank only has 100 miles on it... You could totally use it again!
It's also a bit more than I was looking to spend. The other bike sounds like a better deal. _________________ Andre E. Benguerel

93 at the wheel is pretty good. Consider it also has a proven track record. Make an offer and see if he bites. _________________ james

A while back I had talked to that guy Shawn when I was selling my 99...seemed like a straight up nice guy...anyways....check this one out on BARF and eBay...man if I was in the market I would look REAL closely at it...
That looks exactly like my bike! Considering all the spares I would say its a pretty smokin' deal. _________________ james
