i am looking at buying a nsr 150 the 1 that is in the best condition and my price range .. has a weird tapping noise when idling its defiantly a sound that shouldn't be there
when the clutch is pulled in the sound goes away and the bike runs great goes through the gears really smooth .
does anyone know if this sounds like a major problem i know that 2 strokes don't sit to well when idle but the taping just aint right
If the bike's a bargain, then maybe take the gamble and consider you may need to replace some parts, or at least take it apart and have a look inside.
If the seller is asking a premium then walk away. Nothing is worth a shed load of money when you know or suspect it's making funny noises before you even buy it.
Is it a knock or a rattle? Does the speed of the noise increase with the engine revs? Why not tell the seller to fix it and then you'll buy it. Maybe they've already had an expensive quote to rememdy the noise.
At the end of the day, an NSR150 isn't a particularly rare, expensive, or exotic bike in the big scheme of things, so don't let your heart rule your head. It sounds like you will be putting a good dollop of expendable income into it, so you want to try and make sure you get the best possible deal for your cash. Is there no-one you can take with you to view it? Is it a private sale or a dealer? _________________ Andy.

its a private seller he says he bought it like that
hes only had it a few months and wants to get a dirt bike sounds a bit suss though. he says he had a mechanic look at it and said not to worry about it cause it runs fine. he did have some sort of and explanation for it but he wasn't quite sure and didn't sound to convincing
i took my mate whos a car mechanic to look at it
he knew there was a problem but wasnt sure where it was coming from and why cause hes mot a bike mechanic.
its a fair ride to a bike shop to get and educated opinion was hoping some one would know on here but its probably one of those things you have to hear to have a good idea
im not really keen to run the risk when it sounds like that but then again i might miss a good deal and theres plenty out there

if it goes when the clutch is pulled in it could be the clutch basket is worn.
the plates can wear ridges into the fingers on the basket, which then gives the plates room to rattle about a bit. you can sometimes get away with gentley filing the fingers if the noise really annoys you.
but other than being noisy it should be fine.
had a similar problem on a tzr125rr 4dl i used to have.
