I posted in the classifieds but this will probably warrant some discussion so I brought it over here.
I'm looking to put some new plugs in my 96 MC28 which currently has B8EG's in it, they were in there when I bught it. I have no idea whether the B8EG is the correct plug or whether it may cross reference to the br9ecm since my local parts suppliers are clueless about the br9ecm. When I did some searching for the br9ecm I find that I'll pay about $10 each plus shipping. I bit steep compared to local prices for most other plugs I've needed to buy, including the racing plugs for our 2cycle karts.
I don't know the innards (it's a southern US word) of my bike as I've just been riding and enjoying the hell out of it this summer, and will tear into this winter. But it does have after market pipes and the airbox has been butchered. Don't know my jets or anything else inside. The plug color looks good though. Maybe a little rich but I can sure live with that.
So.... is there a US plug that replaces the br9ecm? If not, where are the US owners buying their plugs so as not to spend a bunch on them?
The airbox "butchering" you saw may be a recommended modification. If the top rear is cut off so you can see the inside, don't try to repair or replace it - that's a performance improvement.
Thanks for posting the question on the plugs I've been wondering the same thing - not sure what is available locally. I remember when I had my RZ350. The local shop had an NGK that ended in EV or something like that and had a funny electrode.

go to www.sparkplugs.com and get the BR9ECM's as Honda specified. The plug does cross reference to other plugs (ND W27EMR-C) but your best with the standard plug.
Trying to go cheap generally will cost you more in the end due to it not being the right temp, lenght, etc..
I have been using sparkplugs.com for almost 10 years now with no problems. quick shipping and good prices. _________________ Charles Gallant
NSR-lizard,
I didn't pay 10k for it though And as much as I would rather not pay too much for my plugs, my underlining question was where can I get them and is there something that replaces the br9ecm here an the US.
BR9ECM's are the plugs you want for all but the MC16. They average £5~6 (US$8.25~9.50) each in the UK... that's the price they are!
I run race plugs; they are $30+ each and their lifetime is about an 1/8 that of the BR9ECM's.
Honda specify checking BR9ECM's every 6 months, and replacing them every 5000kms. I don't think $20/5000kms can be considered expensive, especially when I reckon most people would take 2 or more summers/years to do 5000kms! _________________ Andy.

You know, I really only mentioned the price because it seemed out of line. But again, I was trying to find out if the BR9ECM was the only option for the 28 and where might I find them. Seems like it is and sparkplugs.com is the best source here in the US.
The (sort of) funny thing is a couple of years ago I was offered a deal on cases of them so I could retail them back out at about £4ea in the Marketplace, and no-one was interested so I never bothered. This sort of thing has happened on enough occasions now for me not to particularly chase things now. It's one reason the Marketplace has been closed for so long.
With the encouraging numbers of subscribed Members now though, I am once again looking at re-opening the Marketplace. _________________ Andy.

Anyone with opinions on the BR9ECMIX - NGK's Iridium tipped version of that plug? It claims better spark, but smaller electrode (isn't that counter intuitive?)
The KTM shops seems to be the ticket in the US for picking them up without ordering them on-line. I called a local KTM shop who said they have a couple dozen on the shelves @ $11 ea.
I've said for years for you guys out there to go to MX shops, for both lubricants and plugs. I'm blue in the face now, so I'm glad someone else has started saying it! _________________ Andy.
