If the frame fits a 1997 RS250 engine then it will take any RS250 engine from 1995 to 2000. All the mounting dimensions of these years are the same. The 2001+ (NXA) engine will NOT fit in the old frame.
Any NX5 engine will fit the frame, the model actually ran from 1993 to 2000. _________________ Rich

Got any pics of that frame. I'd love to see it!
Cheers,
Sure, here she blows
and this is it before I gt it. it has the TZ tank which I never got but I assume it would need one although the RS has air intakes NO?
From my research, and it has been a painful and rarely fruitful one, Spondon made these swingarms to counter the flex on the single sided units that would force the bike to run wide.
They then converted a limited number of TZ frames to utilise the swingarm, house the RS engine and of course cater to the counter shaft on the RHS.
Spondon did confirm in writing the frame number was one of the in-house conversions but that is it.
I have a blurry photo of a completed one and cannot find anyone who raced one. I want to know what parts bolt on and what does not. My inclination is to buy a complete bike and fit the parts.
The tripple clamps are Spondon and have offsets as well.
I can remember speaking to a South African guy who raced (quite sucsessfully) in the UK GP250 series when it was national. He said he would get tire marks on the inside of the single sided swingarm due to it flexing as he rode it.
I remember seeing these frames in the early 1990s at races on the Isle of Man. They were made for the 3YL & early 4DP TZs I believe and made to be much stiffer for the bumps and jumps in pure road racing. ie IOM TT / MGP / NW200, as oppose to the silky smooth GP tracks the standard frame worked best on. Interesting to see one for the RS.
that is interesting about the IOM TZ's......It will be a long-term project for sure and it will need a donor as well.
I can hardly see it happening soon but I purchased the chassis because i figured it was worth having and i have always had a soft spot for two strokes.
I am stuck with it anyway as no one races them much now.

It's going to house a supermono motor and be raced in SE QLD.. _________________ Paranoia about failure will ensure nothing but failure to ever reach potential.
i don't mind the idea of GP derived specials using 4T motoX singles or twins, they're still competition engines afterall. More suited to 125 GP frames really though, those 4T motors are tuned to pull hard off low revs aren't they? So top end isnt that important whereas with competition road race machines its all about the top end! If CRF engines kicked out 90 horsepower then yeah, go hard with the 250 frames and swingarms, but they're like 55 horsepower at the crank for the hot 450s so it seems overkill using a 250 setup - needless strength and weight. It'd be good if someone came up with a multi-cylinder, high revving 4T motor that could make 250 2T power but still be small enough to be competitive on size and weight then i'd be all for it.... wait, didn't Honda do all that like 50 years ago and got banned for being too mint? Makes you wonder what we'd be riding around on today if someone had dropped a nuke on Italy in WWII ay?
Something like those Moriwaki MD250s would be great - i actually quite like the idea of those. I saw an article in a bike mag not long ago about a KTM competition 4T bike using their 250GP chassis but with one of their larger motoX engines in it. It looked superb but i can't remember what the details were with its motor's tune. Maybe someone should put a little turbo on one to get the peak power back up? _________________ After years of moaning about immigrants now i am one...
