Track bike fuel - pre mix separating

Wed Jan 20, 2010 4:40 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hey all,

Not that I have a problem as such but is it good for the bike to leave it with pre-mix fuel that has potential to separate / go off in the carbies?? I don't get to the track as often as one would like, and just wondering if it’s doing the jets any harm, fouling them up etc.

Be interested to hear how people get around it?

Regards Mick

It doesn't hurt anything - my bike stood with only the odd start up for about 2 years with no ill effect to the carbs. You just have to be sure to shake the bike before you start it so the fuel mixes up again. If you don't it takes a gob full of oil initially and takes quite a few kicks before it fires. If you shake her up first there are no such problems.

There's nothing to stop you draining the float bowls though if you're still worried about it. There's a wee flat head screw at the base of each bowl which drains them.

The mix does not separate. I had a clear bottle with fully syntetic mix standing for month and there was no separation.

At the end of a trackday I usually turn off the petrol and let the engine run untill the carburator is emptied as the carburators could get some gum in them from evaporated petrol leaving the oil behind
