Chassis Number

Fri Aug 20, 2010 4:23 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all,

I recently imported a MC28 from RSA and have tried to Register it in the UK but I have a 11 digit Chassis number, does anyone else have this or do they all come with a 17 digit number. I now need to get a Certificate of Conformity from Honda. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Scott

They're all 11 digits but DVLA don't care how long the chassis number is.

All you need is an MOT and insurance (done on the chassis number) and a proof of age certificate from Honda.
Take that lot (and some money!) along to your local DVLA office and they issue an age related plate and tax disc. you log book will arrivew in the post a week or so later.

It's not really a book, it's a piece of paper, generally called the V5, registration document or log book, it looks like this.

Registering a freshly imported bike here is far simpler than it is in most other places.

Road registering just about anything is... including an RS or TZ, if you really wanted to! It's one of the few decent things left about the country! Laughing

Oh right. That form just looks like a std form we use over here.
Someone covered up all the good bits on that one though Sad

We need to have a road worthy certificate before we fill out that form. Some engineers will pick absolutly everything before passing a bike. Other barely look at them.

I believe all registerable vehicles chassis and eng numbers are logged in a database. Part of the complience process when they are imported. If you tried to register say, an RS250, the numbers would not match up to anything.
If you were to restamp the numbers off a complied NSR onto the RS, you might get it though, but its called rebirthing, and carrys jail time !!!!

Our MOT certificate is probably akin to your Roadworthy certificate. It's a yearly test (effectively an engineer's report) that confirms it's good to go! As Fontyyy says, if it doesn't already have a V5 registration document the VIN is entered onto the form instead of the license number -- no database checking for unregisterable vehicles here!

The only issue with a race bike is finding a sympathetic tester that will pass the noise level from the open carbs. It's not usually a problem though! Very Happy

I know there are a few street-registered RS's in the UK, but there's hundreds of CR's, RM's, CRF's, XR's, etc.

We do have road registered versions of the cr and rm except it's called a crm and rmx or rmz depending on year. I have also seen a yz 125 registered in Brisbane. I don't know how they went about it, but it was road legal.

That Brenda Raymond that was lurking around, asking mainly stupid questions did ask about registering an rs250 in Australia. I reckon it's possible to do over here if you are willing to jump through a lot of hoops and pay the right people. The real question is would it be worth it.

I did look into inporting and regestering nsr`s here but they wont do it if the bike is over 5 years old . The only way i could find a way around it is if you lived overseas and owned a bike and brought it over then they will rego it .
There is a few cr`s regoed in newcastle , there was a bloke in cessnock converting them (change stator run wires for the lights) Dont have DAY rego like they do in U.K Crying or Very sad . There are a heap of regested thumpers here as well.
