Oil Seal Material

Wed Mar 09, 2011 5:05 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I have placed an order for multiple Honda OEM oil seals but find the one for the countershaft (front sprocket) are not available. So i am ordering on-line. Oils seals available in this size (25x45x7) are nitrile rubber. This is adequate for oil compatibility but the temperature range goes to a high of 100 degrees C. Is this temperature rating adequate?

What are OEM Honda seals made of?

Vitron seals are oil resistant and have a much higher temperature range but i haven't found any yet.

Yep, 100 Celsius degrees is adequate enough.

Dunno... but I do use viton seals for myself.

Got a countershaft and a gear selector seal for my mc18 r2j over the counter at a honda shop here in Aus. Check the part number on David Silver Spares, will tell you a new part number if the old one has been superseeded.

Yes David Silver Spares has them. Thanks. Now to find out what shipping will be for a $10 part. It's the shipping that kills you. Mad

Seems no one stateside has them. i'm guessing this part does not cross over into any USA models so not stocked or even recognized here. I went on multiple USA websites with no luck.

Still, it would be good to know what material Honda uses to substitute local manufacturer/source. If you go on an oil seal website you find multiple seal designs and multiple materials available. it can get very confusing.
