My new NSR

Mon Jul 18, 2011 6:52 am » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi all I just got an MC 18 R5K. Its missing a bit of body work but it runs sweet. I am going to track it so I will see how it goes back to back with the KR1. Anyway a few questions as this is the first NSR I have ever owned but not the first stroker. How do you derestrict it and get the suggested 63 hp. What are the best tyres to use for the track, I dont care about how long they last just grip. Also they brackets for the power valves are sloppy is this normal or just someone who cant use spanners properly, I havent investigated yet just had a quick look see.
Cheers Pat.

Hi and welcome.I use Dunlop Alpha10 tyres,or did, as they are now superceded by H rated Qualifiers, but a lot of people rate Bridgestone 090.Have a rummage through the maintenance section for advice on the P/V issue.

Sloppy = Sloppy strip them down and check them as they will ultimately produce the power you crave!

I had a look at the power valves tonight and then at the parts manual and it seems I am missing one washe, either 15 or 16 in the parts book. The one I have doesnt look anything special so it may be wrong. The top cylinder is the same and this means the nut doesnt tighten the front plate up to the valve. It looks like its been that way for a while too.
The end of the valve has a flat machined on two sides and the front plate has slots to allow the plate to be turned a few degrees either way without the valve moving. Is this correct or have ferral parts found their way onto the bike.

Cheers

There should be no 'freeplay' on the butterfly type appendage on the shaft. If you have play then the parts are worn through poor adjustment/incorrect setup and should be replaced.

Yep I agree with that, I think the front bracket is wrong instead of worn as it is pretty uniform in the slot. Not that it really matters, next stop is the bin anyway. Must start a shopping list Smile .

Start by reading the 250 tuning section of the main site.

Thanks Andy, I had a look last night at the tuning section then at the bike and it looks like someone tried the wire splice before and then went back to the original set up.

Make sure everything is tip top, and the RC Valves adjusted correctly.

Best results have been found to be 4x 20mm holes in the front slope of the airbox lid and the wiresplice. Standard pipes are good for well into the mid 60's, but heavy. You can always tape off 2 holes with duct tape if necessary to richen it back up a tad on a cold night.

Always check the jetting after any mod... Don't post/discuss jet sizes on the public forum though please, or the thread gets locked.
