The MC28 service manual says that once I get the bike started (with premix) and for 10 seconds, I should hold the oil control pulley open to the alignment mark so it can force air out of the outlet lines.

Makes sense, but do I hold it to the 50% mark or the WFO mark? (I planned on doing this with my hand and not the throttle). I've already bled it through the inlet hose, then spindle, then bleed screw. It actually flowed through pretty quick!

Do I really need to run it with premix for 10 seconds? I imagined that by the time the straight gas in the thick fuel hose passed through the carbs, I would have already bleed the oil pump outlet lines and be good to go?

*I thought I saw in another thread where some said they bled it like the manual and skipped the premix part.*

Dana,

is this on a fresh rebuild? Crank, pistons, etc.? if so, I would run pre-mix. those first moments are important to have oil with your fuel. Also, is this a fresh oil pump and lines where it's not already filled with oil? if so, then again, yes, follow those instructions.

if the oil pump system was already in place and the lines are full, then chances are good you dont need to worry about it.

No rebuild. Just the leaking oil pump seal sending 2T oil to the tranny issue.

So I fired it up and held the oil pump pulley open for about 10 seconds. All seems good!

With an oil pump and premix in the tank, your fuel mixture will be a little lean.
Hopefully you only used 1 litre of premixed fuel so you can fill the rest of the tank up with fresh fuel to thin out the oil in the gas tank.
