Today at Barbagallo raceway they were running the 125s with the F2's (aprillia RS250) and even 2 x Suzuki SV650's.
The RS125's owned everything, even on the straight they kept with the faster (of the 2) 650.

The Aprilia was quite slow, not sure why as i was expecting that to dominate maybe crap rider i dont know? but the 125's were very quick lapping about 2secs a lap slower than the superbikes. We got talking to some of the riders in the pits and were all keen to jump on and have ago, got to admit im almost ashamed to say these lil 125's would be quikker than my NSR

Anyway not much of question topic, just a bit of respect for the almighty little RS125

Well, RS is a race bike unless you own Honda RS250

why wouldnt have you believed it mate? they are fantastic little bikes,i should have kept mine

I got 91 model, and although its a pain in the butt to ride, ie; too small for me, and still got the high first gear, once it gets going it will walk away from my mc21, that has the HRC jetkit, reed stuffers, loom, cans & pipes. After all, as Si said it is a proper GP bike.

i guess u have never ridden a honda rs 125, apprilia rs 250 and a suzuki sv 650. although the sv 650 makes move bhp than the rs 125 the weight difference is the main factor, the rs 125 was probably on slicks as well. i have never raced a rs 125 but i did a couple of laps of old snet on one. i loved it i may of been going slow for what the bike could but i was not hanging about but i scared myself.
when i raced at thruxton on my sv 650 i forget which club it was but they had the 250 gps there the fastest bike all day was a honda rs 250, they made the 1000s look slow.

yes the rs and tz 250's are awesome mine was the same year as the one les has,a mate had the newer model,proper suspension,ramair etc and it was lovely to ride compared to mine.the trick to riding them fast is to have no mechanical sympathy for the bike what i mean is you have to slip the clutch like mad to get going,then just hammer it,and brake really late and just whack it down the gears and throw it in that worked for me.it also helped,as a few of you know i'm the perfect size to race the 125's or horses as the technical term for my height would be shortarse

True ive never ridden one or a SV650, but after today i have nothing but respect for these bikes. If anyone had said that a 125 would be quikker than a NSR250 id of laughed and probably written a thread about it on here, not now - there no joke.


Were keen to sign up and get out on some these and get racing, they look like pefect bikes to really learn how to handle a race bike and pick up some real skills. 72KG and 42HP these things will put a smile on anyones face.

Si, is your mate who had the 125 Ben Johnson, it just seems a coincidence that i sold my son Guys rs125 to a chap up your way, Bill Johnson for his son Ben, the end of 98, Ben had an older brother Lee, who i think sadly had a fatal accident at cadwell on a 250, my nipper raced with Lee in juniors on 80cc Cagivas. Ive heard you mention Ben before and it just got me thinking, what a coincidence if it was the same bike and the same Ben.

it is les,small world his dads passed away now as well.he's a good lad ben,weve had many a laugh at our bbq's.the burning blood 250 he won the british 250 championship on was the inspiration to make my sp a replica of one,i fell in love as soon as i saw one in the flesh.

RS....TZ they are TOYS, if you want a GP bike the ONLY one to have is an Aprilia(or maybe a Rotax powered bike) RSW 125/250. The RSW's make a TZ or RS look like a NSR or TZR250/125.

Those RSW/RSA Aprillia's are gorgeous.
Now, I may be barking up the wrong tree here and I know that the Aprillia RSW125 are more expensive to buy but I would have thought there should be more of them in the British 125 championship at the front of the field. Surely once you've purchased your Seel / Luyten / A kit for your Honda RS125 the Aprillia's cannot be that more expensive, are they? Anyone no how much one of the Seel engines are?

the thing is the honda's are easier to buy and be competative,saying that ian has a full on kit spec honda and an rsw aprillia and the honda is more money.the thing is you can buy a half decent rs and throw monay at a kitted engine and be at the front of the grid

Tell that to Aoyama! HRC won it when they wanted to... when they wanted that last 250 milestone.

An HRC RSW250 is right up there with the Aprilia. At each level, whether SP, SS, F3, or GP, each make and model tuned to its ultimate potential has been within only a couple of HP of each other.

Of course one manufacturer has consistently got it worse than all the others, hence why the 250GP Aprilia uses a totally different motor to the piece of sh*t road bike one!

Anyway, what does all that have to do with an RS125 beating up an SV650?

You can't really compare a stock TZ or RS with an Aprilia, not in power, spec or indeed price.

Any of use who trackday a 2t roadbike could have an RS instead, even now, the bills would be a bit higher, TD's might end up being a few fewer but we could. However we could not buy or run an Aprilia.

Back to the OP an RS125 beating any roadbike this side of a Superstock spec 600 is no shock.
