If you are unable to get the 140 rear tyre you require I would use the 150 section as fitted to the MC18R5K. These are still available and will fit without problem. The MC18R2J uses the same wheels as the later MC18R5K as far as I remember. _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...

This link (when translated by Google Chrome) seems to suggest that the MC18 R2J has a 4.00" x 18" rear rim and a 3" x 17" front rim. This suits a 140/18 rear and a 110/17 front. Let me know if I am wrong here.
I have an MC18 R6k which differs in that it has a half inch wider rear rim at 4.5" wide.
I just bought a set of Bridgestone BattleAxe BT-090's for mine (110/70/17 and 150/60/18 )
However, assuming you have a 4" wide rear then you would ideally want the 140/60/18 rear although the 150 will probably be OK?
To get a 140/60/18 you would need to go for the Bridgestone BattleAxe BT-092 which might not be quite as sporty as you were hoping? I am guessing that they are available in the UK?
I haven't investigated other brands, so maybe there is a better option out there.
Anyway, I hope this was helpful. _________________ [color=#808080][size=9]Yes,.. I too know how to waste Time and Money,...
I think you're right that the MC18R2J might in fact have a 4" rear wheel. I was thinking about that this afternoon. I can't find anyone in the UK selling 140 rear tyres though. Not new ones anyway.
I only have a HRC F3 R2J to look at and that has a 4.5" rear wheel the same as the R5K. You could however swap your R2J rear wheel for an R5K one if you wanted the extra 0.5". _________________ If I have to take the carbs off once more...
People fit the 17" rim from an mc21 to get more tyre size options. You need to use the F3 style link plates to get the correct ride height though. Are dunlop alpha 12's not available in the uk? We can get them in Australia (as of 4 months ago anyway). I would have thought there would be a lot more 18" wheeled bikes sold in the UK as VFR400's were offically sold there weren't they?
We raced with the BT-090 Pro on our '91 ZXR w/ an 18" rear. They're actually pretty decent tires but we had to run a 150 as we couldn't find the 140 for them here in Japan. It squares off the tire but it was either the 090 or some dual sport tire. You'll also never burn off your chicken strips if that matters just because of how the tire mounts to the rim.
We have since swapped for a 17" rear and options are abundant.
I guess I'm saying the BT 090's are great tires, but 150 on a 140 wheel does have it's negative impacts.
I just had a small batch of HRC link plates made for MC18, they are rough and need to be "finished" but if you decide to go with 17" wheel those will raise up the rear to compensate for the drop of going with smaller wheel.
thanx people. looked on the net and should be able to get a rear tyre 140/60 18. there are a few choises. the front size aint a problem at all but want both tyres the same brand. guna wait a few days untill a local motorcycle tyre shop opens and see what
they can do for me other wise mite look at swapping rear wheel. o and a HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.
