Questions from my build...

Tue Jan 10, 2012 8:58 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Sorry to repeat questions out of my build thread, but I figured they might get lost amongst the pretty pictures.

So my questions are:
Will it matter not having the anti judder springs (these are the shaped metal springs in the clutch) in a race bike? (a common mod to the 400's was to take these out and replace them with a full size fibre plate)

Does anone have a spare single full sized fibre clutch plate (*assuming it doesn't matter, and based on my 400's experience it shouldn't)?

Is there something special i need to do in the absence of a crank balance mark to line up with the clutch basket? I did my utmost to guestimate position based on the previous crank mark....but still....

Anything special I should keep in mind when putting together the kickstarter? I made sure to get the pawl behind it's little catcher, is that all?

how worn a clutch plate can you handle? I have one you can grab, if you ask nicely you can even grab one with nie discolouration from the previous numpty that overheated it Cool

I am not sure of the clutch/crank line up mark that you talk about. The inner and outer baskets do have to line up, there is a dowel pin that slots into a slot.

If this is your track/race bike, why run a kickstarter when you are going to great lengths like running premix? The pawl is the kick start spring? Don't forget that too.

So had the monty from MAtt at Tyga, the marks don't matter.

He also mentioned there is no advantage to removing the judder spring, but seeing as mine is already gone I may as well leave it out.

I'll take the fibre....

I used to own a 91 RS250 Honda, it was my first race bike. Had to bump start it.

Ever tried to bump start a two stroke on avgas with vapour lock in the carbs?

I'm not going through that again. Kick starter here to stay. I doubt it sucks any horsepower at all, it is just a kilo of weight i'm carrying...
