NS475R With Zeeltronic Ignition 82bhp / 46ft/lb's Torque

Thu Dec 13, 2012 8:06 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

I've fitted a Zeeltronic programmable ignition to my big bore NS475 road bike and dyno tested it yesterday it made between 3 - 10 bhp more throughout the rev range and 3 - 5 ft lbs more torque than it's ever done before.

Power runs in 4th gear (the usual gear to check the power) were impossible as the rear tyre was slipping on the dyno's roller so runs were carried out in 5th and 6th gears, it made 81 bhp in 6th and 82 bhp in 5th, with 46 ft lb's of torque (more torque than any of the 2012 600cc bikes are making!) and was hitting peak power much faster than before so now needs higher gearing to make use of the extra power.

I would now imagine with the extra power & being able to pull higher gearing it would be good for between 145 - 150 mph depending on conditions, bonkers !

Will Shrink the graph and post it shortly.

Cheers Ian

I've attached the dyno sheet, the blue line shows one of the best curves before fitting the Zeeltronic ignition and the red line with the new ignition fitted. As you can see more power and torque everywhere, what you don't see is between 4500 - 5500 rpm another 10 bhp so not just at mid to high rpm and peaks 250 rpm lower.

When you consider that a good standard NS400R makes 52 bhp at 9500 rpm and the 475 bike now makes the same at 7200 rpm it's pretty good.

Now got 84 bhp & 47ft/lbs torque, thanks to some NS250R MC11 primary gears.

I got bored over Xmas and came across a box in the garage, when I looked through it I found the clutch basket & primary gears and noticed they were around 25-30% narrower than the 400's, they're otherwise identical so fitted straight on and gave another 2 bhp & 1ft/lb's torque throughout the whole rev range. The engine also reaches peak power 0.2 of a second quicker so worth the swop !

I've also got hold of a Yamaha Banshee V Force 3 reed block which I've managed to fit into a modified NS barrel, has anybody here tried this type of reed block in any strokers as it would be a lot of money to shell out and time wasted if they don't work any better than standard type reeds. I've searched the web looking for a dyno graph of a before and after comparison (for the banshee/YPVS 350) but found nothing, not even on the manufacturers site ?

Cheers Ian

I sent you a pm with the website to a guy here in the US. He should be able to answer any questions you have about banshee parts.

I guess that should say ...to a guy in the US. I keep forgetting I'm not actually there right now.

That's a really impressive gain you have there. 84hp, and still nowhere close to 500cc! I love it!

It will be great to see some NS's at our track day in July -- 250's and 400's. Fingers crossed. Smile
