New Here and got a question already...

Hi all

First off - hello Smile

I've had an NSR250 MC16 for about a year now, bought it as a tired old dog and have been stripping it down and cleaning everything up. I started to assemble it earlier this year, got the rebuilt suspension on, fitted the engine, carbs etc and tried to fire it up. It spluttered into life for about 5 seconds and the died, checked it had a spark, found none so left it in the garage and went out for the summer on my other bikes. Now the winter is coming it's time to get back to building the NSR. I have checked and found that the rear cylinder has a spark but none on the front. Changed the coils around and again, rear sparked, none on the front so it's not the coil. I checked both coils were earthed and that seems fine so traced the blue and black wire to the black box under the plastic tray beneath the tank which is fine, no breaks.

So, now I'm stuck with a sealed black box and have no idea how to check whether that's the problem, is there a way to test these things? The serial number on it says KV3 C1530A and there's a small mark on the back - 7.2 and then 282. I thought about swapping the black boxes around to see if that made a difference but the other one has slightly different numbers on it so didn't want to risk blowing it....

Hope someone can help, from what I've read on here you lot seem to know what's what with these bikes.

Hi

The black boxes you refer too are CDI units the MC16 has two.

You may find the post below helpful...

Jimmy - Thanks for the response, much appreciated.... I figured the two boxes under the tank must be CDIs but then there's another one under the seat unit so there seems to be three on the bike?

Your post suggests that swapping the two CDIs won't cause any damage so I'm going to try that over the weekend to make sure that one of them is knackered. I'll then try taking the top off and seeing whether anything obvious is amiss.

Thanks again...

The box under the seat is the RC valve controller.

Every day's a schoolday Smile

Thanks for the replies, have emailed David Silver to see whether I can get a new one but may have a go at tearing the old one open to see whether there's anything obviously wrong in it that I can fix.
