Mitaka piston kits

Sun Dec 22, 2013 5:02 pm » Post: #1 » Download Post

Hi guys,
I've been looking at the above piston kits and I wondered if anyone else have tried them.
There is no mention of a or b markings and they claim they fit all nsr 250 models.
Could this be true or would I be buying trouble.
I have an mc16 I wanted to refresh the top end.
Cheers.
Daz

A number of people on the forum do use them that I know of. Personally, I would run genuine pistons for as long as I could get them. The stock ART pistons is very well made.

The mitaka pistons aren't marked as a and b types, do you think they would work in either barrel?
What is the reason that Honda marked them so?
Thanks for any help.

The stock pistons are sized, according to the barrel they correspond to. You can fit a piston that's too big, and seriously run the risk of seizure, or fit one too small, that will "rattle" around in the bore, and wear rapidly.

Another reason we only use genuine pistons.

You would have thought that the might of Honda were capable of fitting one size of barrel and one size of piston during manufacture.
Surely even in the 1980s tolerances so small were achievable?
Anyway, genuine looks the way to go, I presume Tyga are the guys to contact regards supply?
Thanks for advice.

Will contact Tyga direct but I have just had a quick look on Tygas site, it shows mc18 and mc21 kits with different part numbers. I would expect this, the price varies by a small amount but I thought it would be the same bits.
Looking at previous posts on the forum, these pistons will fit my mc16.
Am I correct in thinking this or am I missing something?
Cheers
